Where in the world is Rosebud Creek, Montana?

Well, General George Armstrong Custer knew. It is in the middle of Cheyenne Indian country in southeast Montana. He and his men camped along the creek on their way to the Battle of the Little Big Horn in June of 1876. The Creek lies just 50 miles east of the battlefield, north of the Cheyenne Indian Reservation at Lame Deer, and south of the villages of Forsyth and Colstrip.

Irish Immigrant and pioneer Patrick Hugh Lynch and his wife Margaret Callan led their family to Rosebud Creek in 1882 with nothing more than endless hope in their hearts.

Their daughter Alice, born in Ireland, became a proficient horsewoman, learned the Cheyenne language, and met and married Missouri pioneer Henry Bailey in 1902. From almost nothing to a ranch of more than 75 square miles, these pioneers became a central part of the community. Their daughter, Margaret, observed successes, hardships, humor and folklore and took note. From this came the book. For a close up, click below:
